ADAM LARKEY BIO _________________________________________
Adam Larkey, is the son of Eric and Tammy Larkey of Unicoi, Tennessee.
At the ripe old age of 6, Adam decided he wanted to play the fiddle. He began taking lessons from Scott Gould at the School of Music in Kingsport, TN. His dad, being a bluegrass musician himself, then started letting Adam play a few songs on stage with his band and from there he took off. Adam was born in Abingdon, Virginia. He moved to Tennessee when he was 2 years old and had a pretty normal childhood until the day his dad brought home an old fiddle to be repaired. He showed an instant interest in the old instrument. Since then Adam has appeared on WCYB’s Family Focus, WJHL’s Cable Country, CMT, BCMA’s Pickin Porch, Song of the Mountain, Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, Floyd Fest and the Carter Family Fold, not to mention many other bluegrass featured radio broadcasts.
Adam has been honored to be a guest performer in Nashville at the world famous Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree broadcast world wide on WSM650 radio. He has also preformed alongside accomplished artists such as Michael Cleveland, Third Tyme Out, Blue Highway, The Dan Taminski Band and Trey Hensley. Adam has appeared in Nashville with Kim Karnes, Penny Gilley and the popular 70’s and 80’s rock group, The Little River Band. Adam was honored to be chosen to attend the Michelle Obama White House music series workshop in the summer of 2009. Along with 120 other middle school and high school students across the nation he participated in a Country Music workshop with Alison Krauss and Brad Paisley.
Now at 14 years old he plays old time and bluegrass fiddle music as someone decades his senior. He is influenced mostly by Bobby Hicks and of course Hunter Berry of Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. He has been fortunate to receive lessons from Bobby Hicks, Dave Yates, Keith Williams, and Roy Andrade. Adam just completed his first album with Lonesome Records, produced by Adam Steffey and Chase Johner.
Adam is the 2008 Youth Old Time Fiddle Champion for the Galax Fiddlers Convention and has won multiple 1st place and Best Overall Performer awards for his singing and his fiddle and mandolin playing. He was honored with first place in the 2007 Tennessee State PTA Reflection Contest for his original fiddle instrumental composition of “Unicoi County”. He is featured in the 2009 July/August edition of Blue Ridge Country magazine. Adam had the privilege to be a part of the 2010 IBMA Kids on Bluegrass Showcase.
Adam spends most of his time traveling and performing with his sister Sarah Grace Larkey in their own bluegrass band, The Adam Larkey Band.
Adam is an honor student and inspires to attend Virginia Tech to pursue a career in engineering.
